Semi-Dress Sporrans

The Semi-Dress Sporran (Scottish Gaelic for 'purse') is a traditional part of Scottish Highland dress.
Since the traditional kilt does not have pockets, the semi-dress sporran serves as a wallet and container for any other necessary personal items. In the Scottish Highlands because of the lack of these accessories in traditional dress.
As a multi use Sporran the semi-dress is the best of both worlds, looks good at semi-formal and formal events and is a great looking sporran while doing you everyday tasks. A little less elaborate that the dress sporran, it can still have the decorative canlte and it is typically made of leather, with some embossed or layered colorings and designs.
It is worn on a chain or hung from a kilt belt, conventionally lying in front of the groin of the wearer.
It is commonly thought that the sporran primary or secondary use is to keep the front apron of the kilt down, while running or on a windy day. Its was originally used as the name states a “purse” or pocket, and as protection of the “central area” of the wearer.
