Wool Kilts

A Wool kilt is traditionally made from 100% worsted wool, and typically woven in a tartan pattern.
Although you can get kilts in many variations and material choices, the Camouflage patterns are becoming increasingly popular. And the light weight denims and twill are also popular in many color variations.
A wool kilt is typically in a tartan or solid color, for many Scots no other material will do for a kilt, this could be why woolen mills like Loch Carron have been milling woolen cloth for kilts going on 400 years now.
Canada's oldest woolen mill is located in York Mills, just outside of Harvey in New Brunswick.
The wool kilts comes in 3 weight categories, 10oz, 13oz, and 16oz, these weights are per 1 yard of material, so wool milled to the 10oz would equal 10 ounces per woven yard, and so on for 13oz and 16oz.
The widest assortment of tartans is in the 10oz or Reiver, this lighter weight wool makes a great kilt, the material will hold the shape of the pleats well and will require little to no maintenance, which goes for any wool kilt.
The middle weight 13oz is a great all weather kilt, the pleated material will keep you nice and toasty warm even on the coldest of days, but it is light enough to keep you comfortable even on the hottest days of summer.
Wool kilts are really the most versatile garment you will ever own.
