What kilt is best?
A Traditional Kilt, A Casual Kilt, or a new Modern Kilt?
So you want to get a kilt, but don't know which one to pick!
These are questions I get asked all the time, the answer is simple, just ask yourself where will I wear it? Do I want one for a special occasion or do I want one to wear on a regular basis.
Wear you kilt everywhere!
To pick the right kilt for yourself follow this guide. I have a kilt for every occasion, the best occasion is the sun came up yet another day so its a kilt for me.
If you want a kilt for your wedding and your entire family has their tartan, and you need one, then definitely go with a traditional 8 yd tartan kilt, this will last for generations and will make a you look as great as your bride on your special day!
After all a man in a kilt outfit can claim to be wearing the most distinguished outfit in the world!
This can bring up another question; what tartan?
Go to a Tartan finder on the web they will list all the tartans and quite possibly have a list of surnames that are associated with the Clan tartan, from there you can find your tartan (note: this typically leads to a genealogy search to find out more on your family history, if not already done).
So you want a Tartan kilt for the occasional wedding or for other special occasions and your on a budget, then I would suggest you go with a 5 yd casual kilt, these are made from lighter material and are made the same as a traditional kilt but with less material. Gents who have a casual kilt typically still want to sport around in their tartan but with less formal wear, great for heading to the pub or just exploring. These are typically worn with a Aran Sweater and kilt hose left loose around the ankles.
Now for the modern or designer kilts, there are many versions of this kilt, is one any better than the other?, I will let you decide that. Look at the kilt, picture yourself wearing it, does it fit your style, or the look you want to achieve, I have 4 camouflage kilts, I wear with combat boots and a heavy military sweater or t-shirt on summer day, I get compliments on it all the time, one person even asked if the military had switched uniforms back to the kilt!
So pick out your kilt and get wearing it!
After all is there any reason NOT to wear a kilt.
